# Run your first analysis

Get from a question to a chart in under a minute.

**What you will be able to do**

Ask GNW Horizon a question about an area of interest and get back a chart, a plain-language summary, and suggestions for where to go next.

**What you need**

Nothing — GNW Horizon loads with Tree Cover Loss and administrative boundaries active by default. You can start asking questions immediately.

**Steps**

1. Open GNW Horizon at horizon.globalnaturewatch.org
2. Type your question into the chat panel. Be specific about the area, the data you are interested in, and the time period if you have one in mind.

3. If the assistant asks you to clarify your area or dataset, select from the options it offers.
4. The assistant will retrieve the data, generate a chart, and provide a plain-language summary beneath it.&#x20;

5. Use the follow-up suggestions at the end of the response to go deeper, or type your own next question.

*"How much tree cover was lost in Indonesia between 2015 and 2024?"*

**Tips for a better result**

* **Be specific about location.** Country, state, district, or protected area — the more precise the better. If you are not sure of the exact name, try typing it and the assistant will confirm or ask you to clarify.
* **Include a time range.** Open-ended questions work, but a defined period gives you more precise results.
* **Ask one question at a time.** GNW Horizon analyses one area and one dataset per query. If you want to compare two places, ask about them in sequence or try the comparing two areas quickstart.
* **If the assistant offers dataset options, choose one.** When your question could be answered by more than one dataset, it will explain the difference and ask you to pick. This ensures the result is based on the data that fits your question.
